🚴 Tour of Britain Rolls Through Pontypool Park

Pontypool Park had its big moment on 6 September as it played host to Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain Men – and what a day it was. Olympic champs, Tour winners, and local legends all lined up outside the Active Living Centre before flying through the park gates in a blur of lycra and wheels.

Crowds packed in for a festival-style morning, with BMX tricks, balance bikes for the little ones, workouts at the bandstand, and plenty of food stalls to keep everyone fuelled. By the time the riders tackled the Tumble and looped back through Pontypool, the atmosphere was buzzing.

This page features my snaps from the start line in Pontypool – the colour, the build-up, and the riders setting off on their queen stage adventure.

For the town’s first time hosting Britain’s biggest cycle race, it felt like a proper milestone – and a send-off to remember for Welsh hero Geraint Thomas in his final professional race weekend.
